Here's the original story, covered here first:http://www.naturalrightscoalition.org/1/post/2011/04/escondido-police-commit-fraud2.html
To: email@example.com Matt, (?)
We do send out the press releases in advance to the local media but we have no control over whether or not they print/broadcast it.
We also forward a copy of the press release to our Info Systems department to put on our website, but, again, we do not control when they post it.
To avoid confusion in the future, we will quit sending it to the website. Thank you for pointing out this concern.
As you know, our checkpoints are saving many lives and we appreciate your interest in them.
If you have any other questions or suggestions please send them to me directly.
Again, thanks for the info,

Your answer is NOT acceptable. If you call yourself a public servant, serve us not your own interests. You are obligated to inform the public before a checkpoint and you are NOT doing your JOB.
To: firstname.lastname@example.org I'm sorry, what do you mean a special list?
It sounds like my answer made you angry. I didn't mean to. We appreciate folks like you who support the checkpoints and the safer streets they create.
I will ask the NCT to try and announce it in the paper more consistently so you will know in advance. I just can't guarantee it.
I also can't notify anyone personally because we have so many requests from people like you who support the good work we are doing. I will, however, share your thoughts with the Officers. They have to remain professional in the face of rude protesters and knowing that most of the community supports them helps keep their morale up!
Again, thanks for your support,

To: Jim Maher <Jmaher@ci.escondido.ca.us> List of "local media"
Why are they special?
You are not getting the word out to people who want to see what goes on at these things. Many people say you are treading on very slippery legal ground, and you do not follow the regulations put forward by the supreme court. Why do you call the protesters rude? Are they not just practicing their first amendment rights? I have seen videos in which your officers are EXTREMELY rude to THEM! One even shows one of your officers explaining the checkpoints are only about "taking cars and throwing people in jail." Another was on the news, where your officer told them they couldn't protest within 500 ft of a freeway...What happened to the bill of rights?
Seems you make a lot of money from them too.
Why are your officers harassing these young people, who seem to be doing YOUR JOB of informing people of these checkpoints. Ingersoll vs palmer stated you must have warning signs and advanced public warning, yet you seem to follow regulations less and less since these protesters are hurting your bottom line.
What is your response to these claims?
and why not create an email list for those who wish to get these announcements? Don't be lazy, this is your job.
To: firstname.lastname@example.org Hi Matt,
I must have misunderstood your purpose. You don't appreciate our efforts to make the streets safer?
Anyhow, we do follow the law, which is why we notify the media.
We are proud of the progress we have made in the past 5 years. If you want to schedule a meeting with me to discuss this further contact Eva Bagstad to set it up.
Please control your anger. We work hard to make Escondido safer for everyone, including you. Reasonable people can disagree, but when it comes to saving lives and protecting property, I think we can all agree!
Thanks for all your input. Together, we can make Escondido one of the safest cities in America.

To: Jim Maher <Jmaher@ci.escondido.ca.us> I just want those who enforce the laws to make sure those laws are just. If it continues to seem like you are in it just to steal cars from those who have done harm to nobody to enrich yourselves, I will continue to be disgusted by your actions. If you were out looking for people committing violent crimes instead of having 15 guys sitting outside a trailer drinking coffee and eating pizza, I would applaud your efforts.
Please stop blatantly violating the rights of the people of Escondido, it is morally and ethically wrong. If you claim to follow the law you might want to give the bill of rights another read. You take an oath to uphold that - right?
Thank you for taking time to respond.Jim Maher <Jmaher@ci.escondido.ca.us> Mon, Apr 25, 2011 at 8:31 PM
To: firstname.lastname@example.org Enjoy your frustration. And grow up....
Make the appointment if you have more to say. My job is to keep everyone safe, even ignorant idiots like you.
